Master Choi Dong-seop (born in 1985) a member of Geoinhoe, won the Fist Breaking event at the 2026 World Taekwondo Hanmadang (hereafter, Hanmadang).
On August 3 (Mon), the third day of Hanmadang, Master Choi displayed extraordinary power by completely breaking 16 roof tiles in the final of the domestic Fist Breaking Men’s Senior III division, an event that drew keen attention as top Power Breaking experts competed.
Having broken 14 roof tiles in the preliminary round on July 26 (Sun) to advance in second place, Master Choi showcased his skills in the final and claimed his first-ever gold medal at Hanmadang, edging out Master Lee Byeong-hwa (born 1981, World Taekwondo Breaking Association), who also broke 14 tiles, along with Master Jo Gang (born in 1981, Murimhoe) and Master Choi Seong-won (born 1986, Yeokchon Taekwondo Gym).
Blessed with outstanding physical ability, Master Choi regularly trains for breaking through weight training and speed drills, while also consistently practicing fundamental Taekwondo skills such as Poomsae and kicking.
Master Choi shared his thoughts, saying, “Every time I competed at the World Taekwondo Hanmadang, I made mistakes, which was disappointing, but this year I approached the competition with a relaxed mindset,” adding, “I am truly delighted to have achieved a satisfying result in the final.”
He continued, “I don’t want my participation to be just about winning medals; I want to widely share the true appeal of fist breaking with many people,” expressing his determination by adding, “I will strive to show a good performance at next year’s Hanmadang as well.”
In the Fist Breaking Women’s Senior I·II Combined division, Master Seol Min-ji (born in 1987) a memeber of Geoinhoe, took the top spot with an overwhelming performance, breaking 8 roof tiles.
Following her victory at the 2024 Mungyeong World Taekwondo Hanmadang, Master Seol once again claimed the gold medal, firmly establishing her position as the strongest competitor in the event.
Meanwhile, on August 4 (Tue), the fourth day of Hanmadang, fierce competition continues in Knife Hand Breaking (domestic), Fist Breaking (international), Side Kick/Back Kick (international), High Jump Kick Breaking (domestic, international), Long Jump Kick Breaking (domestic), Taekwondo Aerobics (domestic, international), and Authorized Poomsae (domestic, international).
